The 2 cars that Haas CNC Racing had qualified for the Coca-Cola 600 were both confiscated by NASCAR Saturday and removed from the track.
The scenario occurred because of issues NASCAR had with upper wing mounting points on both the No 66 (Scott Riggs) and 70 (Johnny Sauter) cars.
The discrepancy was brought to the attention of the NASCAR officials from some folks down in the garage area and the inspectors followed up on the issue.
Joe Custer is the teams' general manage and had no comments to offer yesterday since he had yet not been briefed by either Haas competition director Matt Borland, the 66 crew chief, Bootie Barker, or the 70's chief mechanic, Dave Skog.
Both teams went to their back up cars and struggled terribly in the ensuing practice sessions after the confiscation and they will be going to the back of the field for the start of the Coca-Cola 600.

Edwards Car Fails Post Race Inspection
Carl Edwards' Roush Fenway Racing Ford failed postrace inspection Sunday at Dover International Speedway.
The right rear of his car fell below the 1/2-inch tolerance for height, NASCAR said. The victory most likely will stand, but Edwards' team is expected to be penalized later this week.
Team owner Jack Roush said that there were no changes made to the right side of the car and that he believes NASCAR will find the car is bent. He added it was his understanding that the right-rear was 3/8ths of an inch low, which doesn't make sense to him.

Big Penalties Expected for Mayfield's Team
Joe Lax, crew chief for Jeremy Mayfield's No. 36 Toyota, is expecting a significant penalty after his team got caught putting illegal weight in the car.
In pre-qualifying inspection Friday at California Speedway, Mayfield's Bill Davis Racing car was found to have too much camber in the rear end. The team fixed the problem, which requires taking a blowtorch to the rear of the car, and went back through the inspection line, but the car was found to be too light on the right side. (Whoops!)
Then, in a moment of desperation, a team member stuck a piece of lead inside the water bottle to add the extra weight. But NASCAR discovered the illegal trick, which is considered tampering with the car.

Gordon and Johnson Banned from Practice at Infineon
Hope you're sitting for this one!
Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson were banned from on-track activities Friday, after both cars "failed the initial inspection ... as a result of body modifications found to be outside NASCAR tolerances. The front fender of both cars was modified outside of NASCAR regulations.
The 5 and 25 cars did pass those same COT template inspections though.
Both the 24 & 48 teams will be able to repair and resubmit their cars for inspection up to the start of practice Saturday. Once they pass inspection, they can practice Saturday, and will start at the rear of the field on Sunday.
