I kept waiting for some kind of race report to show up in my face yesterday. (I missed the majority of the Cup race from Kansas). But with no SPEED channel to tune into these days, you actually have to dig up a NASCAR source to get what you want.
By the time I was thinking of getting around to it, well, the NASCAR results press release landed in my inbox... so here they are!

Breast Cancser Awareness: The Pink In NASCAR At Kansas
October is breast cancer awareness month. 1 in 8 women are attacked by this bullshit disease. Guys, almost two thousand men each year get diagnosed and almost four hundred deaths each year in men, can be attributed to breast cancer. Do don't turn away from this issue. It impacts everyone.

Even though 1 in 8 doesn't sound like a big number, stop and look around your surroundings right now. If you see at least 8 women, more then likely 1 of them is dealing with this setback. If you think about the 8 women in front of you, think about their families and how exponentially that number of women grows. If no one right in front of you is impacted by breast cancer, someone in their life is. It's an insidious beast and you don't know how many people around you it impacts until you find yourself and your family in the middle of the battle. And when you mention it, victims come out of the woodwork you'd never expect.
But despite the glaring numbers, there are a lot of ways to help contribute.
How?
Yoplait Yogurt has a cool program where you can submit codes from certain lids and they'll make contributions.
5-hour Energy sells PINK lemonade flavored products, and proceeds go to the fight against breast cancer. All you have to do is buy their product and they will contribute a set amount per bottle sold. They had contributed almost $400k when they first offered the product. Then they pulled the product but fans spoke up and they brought it and the program back permanently.
Or by just clicking on a link, you make a free mammogram available to a lucky soul who can't afford them.

Justin Algaier Returns to Cup
For the Justin Algaier fan: This upcoming weekend, Justin Algaier will be returning to the Spint Cup division and driving the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture sponsored Chevrolet SS for Phoenix Racing, at Kansas Speedway.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (October 1, 2013) - Justin Allgaier will make his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start on Sunday, October 6
in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Allgaier will drive the
No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet SS for Phoenix Racing,
for the second time this season.
Allgaier's second NSCS start comes just four weeks after making his
NSCS debut at Chicagoland Speedway in mid-September. After a five-hour
rain delay, Allgaier brought the No. 51 BRANDT Professional Agriculture
Chevy home in the 27th position. Allgaier, 27, is a native of Riverton,
Ill, and drives for Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) in the NASCAR
Nationwide Series (NNS).
BRANDT, Allgaier's current NNS sponsor, will be the primary sponsor on
the No. 51 Chevrolet this weekend at Kansas. Allgaier's NSCS schedule
has been amended from the original selected races. Allgaier will now
race this weekend at Kansas Speedway, as well as Talladega Superspeedway
and Phoenix International Raceway. Allgaier will no longer be behind
the wheel of the No. 51 Chevrolet SS at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). A
driver announcement for CMS will be forthcoming.
"I'm looking forward to making my second start in the NASCAR Sprint Cup
Series," said Allgaier. "There are a few hours of testing on Thursday
at Kansas [Speedway] which will give me more seat time in the car. My
goal for the weekend is to be nice and steady, and to learn as much as I
can. I can't thank everyone at BRANDT and Phoenix Racing enough for
this opportunity."
Allgaier has four starts at Kansas in both the ARCA Racing Series
(2005-2008) and the NNS. He has an average finish of 7.8 in the NNS with
three laps led at the 1.5-mile track. Allgaier will continue to drive
the No. 31 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet Camaro for TSM in
the NNS.

After Kansas, B. Keselowski Still Leads J. Johnson (Official Results from Kansas)
Kansas newly repaved surface, combined with the Chase for the Cup winding down had tensions up and the pressure was on everyone. With those factors combined, the race paid out in many ways for fans to watch.
More or less.
Through it all, Brad Keselowski retained his lead in the points standings, while Jimmie Johnson, after having wrecked his car, still managed a top-10 finish and stayed in second place in the points standings, 7 points behind.
Matt Kenseth won the race, but the dividends were inconsequential, pulling himself up two positions into 9th, 55 points behind the leader.
And NASCAR's newest golden-child, Danica Patrick, got into with Landon Cassill. The 31st placed driver had called out over the radio that she was in her way and bumped her up out of the way. She attempted to retaliate later on and wrecked both Landon and herself. Again, convincing many that she doesn't belong in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
Later the next day (Monday) Cassill made note of moves on her part to go three-wide, but not being able to back the move. He said that as far as he was concerned, the leaders were taking themselves out of the race, what what with all the cautions. Then one thing led to another.
There were the single car spins and teams tried to adapt to the newly repaved track surface, with Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson being the biggest surprise single-car spins.
That's what I took away from my recorded version of the race. Yes, I too have joined the ranks of the many who aren't tuning in to the live event as often as they used to.
There's nothing against the broadcast. NASCAR is lucky to have it out there. But during the replay I noticed so often the camera focus on the lead cars in single file while in the background, there's 3, 4 and for a moment or two, 5-wide racing that got ignored.
Just sayin'.
