Taylor Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt's Youngest, Got Married Recently

The youngest daughter to Dale Earnhardt Sr., Taylor Earnhardt, got married Saturday, May 26th, 2012, according to Middle Georgia's The Telegraph.

For those who don't know, Taylor is the only child that Dale Sr. and Teresa Earnhardt had together.  What surprised me was the bio that accompanied the press release.

She's a professional rodeo competitor, the director of Equestrian Development for DEI.  I did not realize that DEI had investments in other forms of horse power!  I guess if I cared and looked...

Taylor's husband, Brandon Putnam, is also a rodeo professional and owns a grading and trucking company.  Very cool.

Speed Channel's Daytona Coverage

For the 2012 Daytona 500 month, Fox's Speed channel has quite a bit of NASCAR coverage planned, including a piece on remembering Dale Earnhardt.  Overall, it's reportedly about 100 hours of television programming.

Speed's coverage will include 16 events from the track and 44 different shows from various studios.

First up, starting Feb 13th, is NASCAR Race Hub.  There will also be 8 Sprint Cup practice sessions, 2 qualifying races plus coverage of the Budweiser Shootout practices...

There will also be the ARCA race, the Camping World Truck Series events.

There's even a Dale Earnhardt special airing late, on February 17th.

Are You Ready For A No. 3 Chevy On The Track Again?

Austin Dillon drove the black No. 3 Chevy truck in the Camping World Truck Series.  He also won the championship in that black No. 3.  Which is a fine way to represent that number, whose history touches many a heart.

And in 2012, Richard Childriss is putting Austin Dillon on the track in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.  And yes, it will be in the mostly black No. 3 Chevy Impala.

To be honest, being a die-hard Dale Earnhardt sr. fan, this progression for a No. 3 creeping ever so slowly towards the Cup series, seems to be coming at just the right time and at just the right pace.

Plus Austin Dillon has a lot of adjustments to tackle.  He's not seen some of the tracks he'll be seeing now in the Nationwide Series.  He hasn't dealt with road courses.

1997 Dale Earnhardt Hood For Auction

Want a piece of a Daytona 500 raced car? How about a piece of a car that Dale Earnhardt drove? What about a piece of the car that Dale Earnhardt wrecked?

If you've done the math, you know I'm talking about the black Monte Carlo that Dale Earnhardt drove in the 1997 Daytona 500. The one he got back in and finished the race in when he realized the wheels were still on it!

After the race, the hood of the car was signed by Childress & McReynolds. The hood stayed in RCR until it ended up in the private collection Charles Ross, who's amassed a great deal of Earndardt stuff. Wha? Someone has more Sr. stuff than I do?

Now Ross is auctioning off the hood along with the rest of his 'stuff' from his collection.

He's using Go Motor Bids to do it and they will be auctioning off his collection, a piece at a time.

At the moment, the auction is up to $5750, but it's still got a week to go. I bet it gets up there a little bit more than that before this is all over.

Another Diecast Twist of History

RCCA Elite, a membership only organization for specially detailed diecasts has done it again.

A few months back, they distributed a COT of the famed black No 3 Chevy of Dale Earnhardt Sr., and I wasn't to impressed that they've gone to those lengths to market something that never existed.

I guess they either made enough off that venture, or are stepping out into the Fringe of sale again by now distributing a celebratory 200th win COT diecast for the King, Richard Petty.

Wow, somehow I missed the COT look in all the archival footage of Richard Petty winning his 200th race.

Personally, this betrays the historical fact of the issue be redistributing a COT of a yesteryear scheme and I won't take any part in it... unless someone buys one for me.

The other angle I have to look at is that the shops, DEI, PE, had to put there stamp of approvals on these items, so they're as much to blame on the profit wagon as anyone.

I'd say don't buy something that didn't exist, but then again I've got over 1,000 diecasts so who the heck am I to spout such "wisdom"?

A Plea for Help From David Poole for Wessa Miller

Wessa Miller is the girl who gave Dale Earnhardt a lucky penny for the 1998 Daytona 500. The very Daytona 500 that Earnhardt won.

The specialness about that was that Wessa has spina bifida, a congenital condition in which the spinal cord is malformed and lacks skeletal and soft tissue coverings to protect it. She has no feeling from the waist down and uses a wheelchair.

She's now 16. Of late, her family has had a bit of a go at it.

Wessa's dad, Booker, had emergency open-heart surgery a couple of months ago and their lives became even more complicated and David Poole put out a post on Sirius Backstage asking for some help, for them.

Earnhardt's 1987 Car to go on Display

For those of you in the vicinity of Lowe's Motor Speedway (lucky buggers):

The No. 3 Wrangler Chevrolet that Dale Earnhardt was driving 20 years ago when he performed the legendary "pass in the grass" will return to Lowe's Motor Speedway Sept. 13-16 for the Food Lion AutoFair.

The historic stock car will be among the featured attractions showcased in the spacious Food Lion Pavilion throughout the four-day automotive extravaganza.
