Bruton Smith Says The Fans Have Spoken, And Bristol Gets a Make-Over... Again
In case you had not heard, but empty seats is the rule of the day and Bruton Smith is looking to put the wrecking back into Bristol Motor Speedway... More than likely that means no more 2-wide, side-by-side excitement but instead, single-file, chrome-horn running where wrecking is the order of the day.
We'll be hearing in a few weeks what Smith will be doing exactly and then we'll see what the damage really will be.
But the decision is made and they're getting a move on so the track will be ready by the night race taking place on August 25th.

Bruce,
ReplyDeleteBruton Smith fails to understand that it is not necessarily the type of racing that has kept people from attending Bristol, rather, it is most likely the price of the the trip! The prices for NASCAR Sprint Cup tickets can be very costly.
Some venues are more expensive than others. For instance a ticket for the Sprint Cup Tower for the Daytona 500 can cost in excess of $300!
Las Vegas and Phoenix Sunday tickets range in the $150-175 area. If you add to that the cost of the Trucks, and Nationwide, you can have a very pricey weekend!!
If you travel to these venues then there is the cost of hotels, gas, food, etc!
So Mr. Smith, being a billionaire, fails to see that in these economic conditions, the average "Joe" just can't afford those NASCAR ventures like he could just a very few short years ago!
Therefore, it my contention that if Bruton were to lower the ticket prices a few dollars, he could fill Bristol, LVMS, Infineon, Texas, Atlanta, and the rest of his racing properties.
It would also allow this avid race fan the ability to be more diligent about "working on my redneck"!
The cost of tickets to his track may be part of the equation, but I think that the royal clusterf*ck @ Kentucky Speedway last July may also be a part of it as well! Many people like myself, NEVER saw a race! This event last summer was people's vacations and many traveled a long way to attend this event, not to mention those that MAY have gotten in were parked on the side of the highway because that was the only place to park! People walked for miles; my husband and I are disabled-WE CAN'T DO THAT! We also had a negative experience @Atlanta Motor Speedway where there were not NEARLY enough shuttles to go around and, as I said, my husband and I cannot walk 2 miles to our seats, but I think that we did because the stupid shuttle driver let us off at the wrong stop! We BOTH were in paian for over a week after that trip! I am presuming that NONE of his tracks are handicap-friendly, that's for sure! Back to Kentucky, we took my 13 year-old nephew to his first Cup race which he did not see! I feel absolutely terrible, but he's a remarkable young man and said that it was not our fault. As long as this greedy man owns these tracks, I will NEVER step into another one again! I also am waiting to be made whole; we paid for 3 $85? tickets and did not see a race! We all still have our tickets, and I am waiting to be made whole and take him to the Brickyard, a GREAT job directing traffic between the city of Indianapolis as well as the Indiana Highway Patrol! Can't say that for Kentucky, that's for damn sure! My husband said that even the additional land purchased is not enough if they filled the place up, which I doubt he ever will!
