A Quick Question About the Vegas Race

Food for thought:

I'm on the bubble about this one though I'm leaning towards the drivers being responsible since they are the consummate professionals, but who's to blame for all the speeding penalties at Vegas last week?

  1. NASCAR for limiting track practice, aside from the race weekend?
  2. Vegas for moving that cursed limit line?
  3. Or the drivers? Shouldn't they have made the appropriate mental adjustments and played it according the the changing playing field? IE: moving line?
There were an awful lot of foul ups last weekend and I sure was surprised, with Jeff Gordon paying a pretty hefty price for his snafu.

As far as track practice goes, wow, I think it's affecting Jr., but then again, it could be something else.

Any thoughts on any of these issues? Anyone? Someone?

  1. IMO the drivers are partly to blame. It is their job to make sure they don't speed of course but surely if there are that many penalties then it's the markings that are causing the problem!

  2. the easiest fix to this is to put speedometers in the cars. the only reason they aren't there is because when they started racing they didn't make speedometers. now they do. use them. then, if you're caught speeding we know who's fault it is...the drivers. either that or pay more attention to your RPM's.

  3. You hit on an interesting perspective Lindsey.

Speedometers and ... fuel gauges! Some of the teams have sensors that set a light off when they get low on fuel.. dale jarrett had one in his latter years...

But you do make a great point about focusing on the tach. during practice, or setting the car up, it is determined what tach reading equals what speed... so you are right.. watch that tach folks.

Then again, though they appear to be going slow, it's still almost freeway speeds and they have to look out for other drivers pulling in and out... it is a trick to keep 2 eyes on 3 or 4 things!
