Nationwide Team Penalized After Chicago

The No. 09 team had some inspection issues after the Chicago race and they're now paying the piper for those issues today!  Check out the press release, via NASCAR:

No. 09 NASCAR Nationwide Series Team Penalized For Infractions

At Chicagoland Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 24, 2012) – NASCAR has issued penalties to the No. 09 team in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, as a result of rules infractions found on July 22 during post-race inspection at Chicagoland Speedway.

Crew chief Scott Zipadelli has been fined $10,000 and placed on NASCAR probation until Sept. 5 for violating Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4J (any determination by NASCAR officials that race equipment used in the event does not conform to NASCAR rules detailed in Section 20A of the rule book or has not been approved by NASCAR prior to the event); 20A-2.3A (improperly attached weight); and 20A-2.4B (car failed to meet minimum weight requirements in post-race inspection). Car chief Travis Young has been placed on NASCAR probation until Sept. 5 for the same infractions.

Driver Kenny Wallace and owner Robby Benton have been penalized with the loss of six championship driver and six championship owner points for violating Sections 12-1; 12-4J; and 20A-2.4B.

Will Kenny Wallace Lose His NASCAR Nationwide Ride?

Did you know that if Kenny Wallace can't get any additional sponsor dollars after the fifth race of the NASCAR Nationwide Series 2012 season, he may be out of a ride?

It's sad to ponder that, but that's what is being reported over on Dave Moody's Soapbox article.

Right now, Kenny has sponsor money for the first five races of the season from American Ethanol and Family Farmers sponsors on his RAB Racing NNS entry.

If they get no money beyond the fifth race, team owner indicated he would be selling the ride.

Kenny Wallace said that sponsoring him costs $100k a race and you can use his likeness for a year, in any way you want, if you bring the sponsor bucks for a single race.

Sounds like a good deal, if you can afford the costs of a single-race sponsorship.  And sounds cool...  I'd love to see my logo on his hood!  LOL...  I gotta go play the lottery...  I'm sure my wife will understand that if we come into a huge monetary windfall, that I'll be spending it in a mere 7-day time period.

Kenny Wallace Eyeing Top 5 In NNS

It may be the same old thing for some of the top 10 drivers in the NASCAR Nationwide Series point standings like Carl Edwards (No. 60 Scott�s/Save-A-Lot Ford) leading for the second straight week and into the series' next race at Texas.

But there are some new top 10 drivers who haven't been there in awhile.

Kenny Wallace (No. 28 U.S. Border Patrol Chevrolet) hasn't been in the top 10 since 2006. Currently, he's ninth. It's also the first time Jay Robinson Racing has had a driver crack the top 10 in its 10-year history.

Kenny Wallace To Run the AMP Energy 500

Hey, Kenny Wallace Fans! We're gonna get to see Kenny run in the Cup series this Sunday in the Michael Waltrip Racing's No. 00 car, replacing Michael McDowell for this event.

The car is outside the owners' points bubble so they need to qualify on time, and they think Kenny can get the job done.

This isn't the first time they've drawn in the experienced driver to get the car back into the top 35.

Let's hope Kenny can do it!

Kenny Wallce MAYBE to the 88 in 2008

For the Kenny Wallace fan out there, the idea of Kenny getting a ride in an established team would be fantastic news indeed, and so it is:

St. Louisan Kenny Wallace may return to the NASCAR Cup series next year if a meeting with Robert Yates goes well Sunday in California.

"He called me up and said that his brother-in-law told him that the driver he needed to hire was right under his nose — me," Wallace said with his signature laugh. "I told him that the manufacturer wanted me to drive his car last but M&Ms wanted" Ricky Rudd. (Thank you for retiring Ricky!)

Wallace said Yates asked him to test the No. 88 Ford at Talladega in the near future, to which Wallace replied: "Do I have to pay you or what?"

Also in the same article is a tidbit on an ARCA Race accident Friday night.

Bryan Clauson won his first-ever ARCA/REMAX race Friday night at Gateway in the ARCA Gateway 150 and it was a joy to see a driver when his first race, keep his composure during the interview but this poor kids hands were shaking like a leaf.

The accident, the fourth of the race, took place after Patrick Sheltra of Indiantown, Fla., got sideways coming out of turn 2 with Fischer on the outside. Then Ryan Fischer got tire tapped in a weird contact that sent his car jumping up onto the outside retainer wall coming out of turn 2 at Gateway. The car then came off the wall and rolled a few times.

As is the common quote from a driver who flips: "Sky, ground, sky, ground. That's all I saw," Fischer said. "Sparks everywhere. I'm all right so that's a good thing."

So the DEI #8 made non-contract changing news this last weekend when the team was caught with illegal brackets on the COT, and the ensuing penalties are Crew chief Tony Eury Jr. - $100,000 fine, suspended from NASCAR until July 4, 2007. Driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., 100 point penalty, Car owner Teresa Earnhardt - 100 point penalty.
(I think this is a wee bit excessive, but I'm not the boss of the track, so there you have it.)

NASCAR penalized Bill Davis Racing on Tuesday for allowing an unlicensed driver behind the wheel of Johnny Benson's truck during a test session last week. (Hmm, I guess that's a massive whoops!!) Benson was fined $10,000 and docked 50 points, and crew chief Trip Bruce was suspended for two races. See the article here.

At Darlington, during the last round of pit stops, Denny Hamlin fell from 2nd to 16th, and still battled his way back up to second, despite the pit road error.
