Busch Race - Yellow Transportation 300
After overcoming a speeding penalty on pit road, Kyle Busch fought his back to the front to duke it out with Matt Kenseth in the closing laps and put on a great show with the 2nd closest finish this year in the Busch Series.Though I was expecting the usual D-Oval racing from Kansas, it turned out to be a pretty good Busch race to watch today with 2, 3 and 4 wide racing throughout the day.
I admit, I like the restarts after a caution period, and that probably contributed greatly to the amount of racing I saw.
Carl Edwards got rubbed the wrong way, literally, by Matt Kenseth in the early going that took Edwards' LF tire out, and then there was nothing but troubles all day dealing with the after affects of the flat / shredding tire, to the point, that after making repairs in the garage, when Carl came back out on the track, ended up nosing hard into the wall, ending his day.
He was noticeably upset with Kenseth, but said he hopes this can be put behind them. In his post wreck interview, he ended it by looking at the camera and saying it is really hard being this mad with camera's in his face!
Unofficially, (And right now, that is important today), Kyle Busch won the Yellow Transportation 300, followed by

Denny Hamlin,with the Flu, Wins the Busch Race
After taking IV fluids before the race, Denny Hamlin, with the Flu, dominated the RoadLoans.com 200 Busch Series race at Dover while the race had a lot of cautions to tie the record for the number of cautions.
He was followed by Martin Truex Jr., Matt Kenseth, Mike Bliss and Reed Sorenson rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Earnhardt Jr - Several Busch Races in 2008
It's been reported that Dale Earnhardt Jr will be running a few Busch Series races for Hendricks Motorsports next season.
"It will be around seven or so," Earnhardt Elledge said Wednesday. "We haven't identified where exactly and we haven't identified all of the sponsor partners."

NASCAR should lower Price of Busch Series Sponsorship
NASCAR might be better off requiring less media advertising from a potential sponsor to replace Busch for NASCAR's main support series, Anheuser-Busch Vice President Tony Ponturo said Tuesday.
Ponturo said his company has no interest in reconsidering its decision to not renew its sponsorship contract of the Busch Series - a sponsorship that has lasted 26 seasons.
"ESPN, I know, is a good partner, [and] they pay high rights fees, but you've got to make it affordable to people. They'll figure that out."
"We have a proposal sitting on their desk as we speak," Ponturo said. "So we'll see. Everything is in negotiation. It is our intent to continue. Like all deals, they see what the landscape looks like.
"It hasn't been accepted yet, but it is our intent to continue, and they have an offer in front of them."

Busch Series SANS Sponsor Possibly
Over on ThatsRacin, Jim Utter writes that NASCAR is working on contingency plans for next season as it has yet to secure a sponsor for its Busch Series.
“We’ll have that series regardless of whether a new sponsor is obtained,” said Jim Hunter, NASCAR’s vice president for corporate communications.
Which is good, as we've seen how the IROC series did not hold up to non-sponsorship!

Busch Series - Camping World 300
Jeff Burton won a long race at California Speedway with Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer rounding out the top 5. It was long due to an extended red flag while track workers repaired the wall in turn 1 after a bad looking wreck.
Brad Keselowski was taken to a hospital by helicopter for evaluation after a very scary looking crash on Lap 68 of Saturday night’s Camping World 300 at California Speedway.
Brad Keselowski, driving the Jr Motorsports No. 88 slammed the outside wall in Turn 1 head on at about 147 mph after being spun by AJ Allmendinger’s car in a multicar crash.
After slamming the wall, the car became airborne and was hit by Allmendinger’s while still in the air. Flames erupted briefly from under the No. 88 Chevy and the car finally came to rest at the bottom of the track.
Keselowski was able to put down his window net and he was helped from the car by emergency workers and put on a backboard and stretcher.

Food City 250 - Bristol

They rubbed fenders, Kasey on the outside, Ryan on the inside, a lapped car coming up on the inside, with Leffler behind them and closing hard.
Leffler doing what he does best, made it FOUR wide at the worst possible moment and rubbed his RR fender up into Ryans LF forcing Ryan into Kasey's LR fender, and Ryan lost his tire from that contact.
The rest of the race (a few laps) was a mystery as ESPN lost their satellite feed, but replayed the last 2 laps, showing Kasey Kahne winning, Leffler, not quite able to overtake him on the inside line, came in second and David Reutimann coming in third.

The racing looked good on the NEW Bristol track surface. See my outline on what they did to the track at: Bristol Specs Kasey Kahne won the race, as in the last 15 laps saw the front runners rubbing fenders with each other.
At the start of the race, racing was clean. The semi-variable banking provided multiple lines and the racing was clean at the front of the race. For a moment, I thought we were going see a race in an hour and a half the way they were first running, but single car spins started to sprout out of the new surface.
Ryan Newman was leading on old tires (100+ laps old) when Kasey Kahne and Jason Leffler came up to tangle for the lead. Ryan was using the outside line to hold them off, then he let Kasey in on the outside of him (Man, that sounds funny referring to a Bristol race).

Busch Series to get Rain Tires!
The NASCAR Busch Series will compete in the rain, if necessary, in its two upcoming road-course events, Busch Series Director Joe Balash confirmed Friday.
Goodyear will bring rain tires to both the Aug. 4 event in Montreal and the Aug. 11 event in Watkins Glen.
Balash said the series is committed to getting both of those events completed on their scheduled race date. All cars will be equipped with windshield wipers, defrosters and rear lights.
(If I remember correctly, running in the rain ain't the best thing for the cars. Look at the Indy 500 this year!)

Gateway 250
Reed Sorenson wins the Gateway 250 at Gateway International Raceway.
Steven Wallace had a brake problem on lap 5 and slammed the wall.
Scott Wimmer had cut a tire on lap 53.
Only 26 cars finished the race, and 14 of those were lead lap cars.
Reed was followed by Scott Wimmer, David Reutimann, Jason Leffler & David Ragan.
Carl Edwards finished 6th with a wrecked car.
Carl now has an 852 point lead on 2nd place!

Kyle Busch Springs Confiscated
I was listening to Sirius today and in the background, (I admit it, the radio was on, but I was lolly-gagging about) I heard that springs from a Hendricks car was confiscated after a race.
Not sure if it was the Busch race or Cup race. Will let you know if I find anything out!

Following postrace inspection, NASCAR inspectors confiscated the front springs of Kyle Busch's winning No. 5 Busch Series car and dispatched them to NASCAR's Research & Development Center in Concord, N.C., for further evaluation . . .

Kyle Busch held off a late charge by Kevin Harvick in a green/white/checkered finish to win Saturday's rain delayed Winn-Dixie 250 NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway. Despite having the dominant car, Busch was made to work in the final restart by Harvick. After the final caution of the day, due to a spin by Juan Pablo Montoya on Lap 97, Busch restarted from the lead and kept his line while Harvick stepped out in an effort to make a pass. Unable to get the momentum needed, Harvick settled behind Busch.

AT&T 250 Busch Race
According to the finish list, Aric Almirola won the race.
In reality, Almirola started the race, but once Denny Hamlin got into the car ( A team decision that was in contrast to what we first heard at the beginning of the race), he powered through being a lap down (positions lost while swapping drivers under yellow) to take the race checkered flag. But since Almirola started the race in the car, he gets the win!
Scott Wimmer came in 2nd, Leffler 3rd, Brad Coleman 4th & Jason Keller came in 5th.

This leads to unnoficial points standings at Carl Edwards having a 776 point lead on the rest of the pack!! David Reutimann is 2nd in points, followed by Ragan, Blaney & Harvick.

Anyone watching the Busch race last night saw Newman and Stewart exchange paint and tire pieces for a few laps. Not sure if anything is going to come of it. It resulted in Ryan's tire going down after a retaliatory fender slap from Stewart.
