Robert Yates to Retire

It was announced today that Robert Yates will retire at the end of the season. The control of Robert Yates Racing will go to his son, Doug Yates.

Doug Yates will own and operate Yates Racing beginning Dec. 1.

The team will use the car numbers and owner points from Robert Yates Racing and will field cars for David Gilliland and Travis Kvapil. (What? Yes, Kvapil is going to the 88, despite news that Kenny Wallace might have gone to the car. Oh well.)

The transaction will be effective December 1, 2007. "With this announcement it's clear that the letter of intent with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing will not proceed. We're thankful for their support and would welcome the opportunity to work with them in the future," said Yates Racing CEO Doug Yates.
