Jason Leffler, Dead at Thirty-Seven, In Sprint Car Accident

In some of the saddest news to date, NASCAR driver Jason Leffler has passed away after being involved in a Sprint Car accident in New Jersey.

Jason was injured in a race at Bridgeport Speedway during the track's "Night of Wings" event.  His car flipped and hit a wall.  After being extracted from the car on a board, he was airlifted to Crozier Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Jason Leffler was a favorite of mine when he competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Truck Series race events.  He had a fire, a spirit in his driving that always ignited a race fan's attention and sometimes, ire.

His last Sprint Cup race was at Pocono last weekend, where he finished 43rd due to transmission issues.

His presence will be missed terribly as condolences go out to his family and friends.
