OSR Snookered by Marketing Agent

The Change of Plans
The Old School Racing (OSR) Series that I previously reported on here, in March who is looking to organize races with drivers from the classic era, will be launching its inaugural season in the spring of 2009 and not in the spring of 2008 as I originally reported.

Due to circumstances so beyond their control, they had to cancel the planned 2008 season and move on to a new, 2009 inaugural season.

“I regret that the 2008 season has been canceled and apologize to the old school fans that have been dying to see their past hero’s compete once again,” said Norm Weaver, Managing Partner of the OSR. “But, for those die-hard fans, we are planning few surprises for 2008 in hopes of filling some of that void.”

What Happened:

In July 2007, OSR hired a marketing agent and in December of 2008 OSR went to the PRI show in Orlando to introduce their league and the marketing agent guaranteed them 2 "major" sponsors will sign at PRI.

Instead of working out of the OSR booth, the marketing agent was in another booth representing another racing series. We came to find out that he had recently purchased that tour.

From August thru December, he was promoting his new series instead of OSR. All of the sponsorship figures he had been presenting to OSR was a lie, for his own series, or just blatantly fabricated. One of the potential title sponsors he was touting had never even received a call from the marketing agent. A big "lesson learned" here, for sure.

As it stands, they are regrouping and looking to obtain sponsors. They're having some issues, but they're working at it because once they get this show on the road, a racing series for drivers from the classic era like Dave Marcis, David Pearson, Harry Gant, Phil Parsons and the like would definitely be awesome to see...

It would be like the senior tour for NASCAR!! Terry Labonte, Bill Elliott and others would have a league to move into!! Cool!
