Wacky night at the races gang.
The big one happened at Richmond on lap 226 as J.J. Yeley gets into the wall and the incident collected 11 cars in the process. Most notably, Patrick Carpentier should be called pat Car-PUNT-ier as he got hit pretty hard at least 4 times that I saw in the wreck,
Michael Waltrip got parked for the rest of the race after he and Casey Mears got together on lap 354 and Waltrip throttled his car into Mears down the front stretch in retaliation. With that said, Waltrip was at least 2 laps down when he tangled fenders with a lead lap car.
Denny Hamlin had won the pole and led 381 laps of the race and managed to come in 24th because of a slow tire leak and a 2 lap penalty for focing the yellow flag just before the race's end.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the lead over when Hamlin fell off the pace.
Kyle Busch and Dale Earnhardt Jr. got together, Dale Jr. getting the worse of it coming in 15th, Kyle coming in 2nd. You do the math. It was just a racing deal.
After all was said and done, Clint Bowyer survived the evening's events to be in the right place and time to win the race.
Bowyer was followed by Kyle Busch, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Martin Truex Jr. and Ryan Newman were the top 6 finishers of the evening.
After the race, during an interview of Dale Earnhardt Jr., they asked him if Kyle was going to need security and he said it was just a racing deal, but he may still need security leaving the track.

Kyle Busch went for the win, entitled or not, it did not matter if Jr. had won last week or had been 20 years without a win. The merchandise sales, the commercials, the movie appearances and the popularity contest that all the 3, 8 and 88 fans have Sr's son are left when the green flag drops.
ReplyDeleteWhat would Dad have done? I think the this stings most 88 fans most. It hurts to believe that 18 is more like "The Intimidator" than 88.
I like your point August.. Can't disagree with it, but if Kyle could find a more productive set of words to voice his displeasure's I think things would be a lot better for him as far as fans go, because you're right about his style.
ReplyDeleteUnlike others who thought they could drive like Sr., but never back it up with performance, The Shrub can.
August,
ReplyDeleteI personally don't believe that the wreck was intentional, but the problem I have with it is that as good of a wheel man as Busch is, it's absolutely impossible to drive side-by-side with him. And, I could care less if it's the 88 car next to him or not, because afterall, I'm not much of a Junior fan - but, how about instances like the truck race at Martinsville when he took out Johnny Benson while racing for third place?
There's no comparison between the Intimidator and Kyle Busch ... Earnhardt was calculated, and earned the right to be "big daddy" on the track ... Busch is just a loose cannon.
But wasn't E Sr just as crazy in the beginning too?
ReplyDeleteMaybe, maybe not. But, that was a completely different era ... back when "rubbin' was racin". Everything's all about safety nowadays, especially since - ironically enough - the untimely death of Earnhardt.
