Michael Waltrip Racing snagged themselves a deal that nets them owners points from FasLane Racing for Michaels No. 55 Toyota team, which will be driven by Mark Martin.
Thus. now Mark Martin has a guaranteed spot in the Daytona 500 this year while Faslane will be using a Past Champion Provisional for their driver, Terry Labonte.
But... check out the musical points game
After the D500, FasLane will get the No. 6 points from Roush Fenway Racing.
Michael will drive the No. 55 Toyota in the Budweiser Shootout, then give the car over to Mark Martin.
Then Michael Waltrip will be driving in the Daytona 500, in the No. 40 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota for Hillman Racing.
Then, let's add to this mix, what we already know...
Danica Patrick, who was driving for Stewart-Haas Racing, is now using points from Tommy Baldwin Racing, and driving the No. 10 for TBR in the Cup Series. In collaboration with SHR.

Honestly, this is how this business of NASCAR works. But I bet the casual fan is thinking, wow, so you can buy your way into the races.
This is the great American Race and the supposed icon of stock car racing. Shouldn't it be more of an honor to earn one's way into this event?
This diluting of the entry requirements is nothing new and is most obvious at this time of year as teams play the shell game with owner's points.
At some point, if this keeps up, they should consider renaming Owners Points to Owners Rolling Credits and distribute them on debit cards.
