You're are probably wondering why I'm scribbling a piece that might be relating NASCAR to sail boat racing. Well, to be quite frank, they have almost NOTHING to do with each other.
With the exception of a contest of speed and team work that results in the win, sailing and NASCARing (I had to pull that pun. Sorry) have nothing to do with each other.
But what is more notable is that one Bay Area NBC news outlet does make a comparative statement. In their article about the watery race series, their title calls The America's Cup "NASCAR On The Water."
They didn't call it IndyCar on the Water. Nor did they call it F1 on the Water or Motorcycle Racing on the Water. No, they called it NASCAR on the water.
They called out the world-class series of sail boat racing, equating the sport to NASCAR.
But what's more important, is how prevalent NASCAR has become in the mindset of America. The exposure the sport has is reaching out to different realms of awareness to the point of being compared to off the cuff.
That's pretty cool that our sport is thought of, even when media covers other events.
