Sad Turn of Events At Pocono After The Race, Death of a Fan

After 98 laps of the originally slated 160 laps, the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race was called due to rain.  Jeff Gordon ended up with the win.  A much needed win.

But as the weather came in, the TV crews were pulled in due to the lightning that was in the area.  During the telecast you could barely see down the length of the track and lightning could be seen behind the telecast crew.

Turns out that as the race was called and fans were filing out, there was a lightning strike in the parking lot behind the grandstand.

Nine people were injured and a tenth fan, sadly, died from their injuries.

Pocono President Brandon Igdalsky said that

"Unfortunately, a member of our raceway family here, a fan, has passed away."

My heart goes out to everyone involved.
