NASCAR Looking At Weather Contingencies During Races

After the lightning fatality at Pocono, NASCAR has announced that it is looking at the plan to stop races for lightning, if warranted.

In fact, they've announced that they will not hesitate to stop a race if lightning is imminent.

This new practice is for your safety but I'm sure that when it's first practiced, fans will grumble.  That's because if you can see lightning, it doesn't mean it's coming your way.  But from this point forward, "Better safe, than sorry" is the motto.

But is it enough?

I don't ask that because I'm in question of NASCAR's new policy. There's only so much you can do with regards to weather.

But when the fan was killed by lightning that hit his car while he was outside of it, was because the racing was stopped and he was leaving the facility.

And then, 90 minutes later, another fan was injured from another lightning strike.

In other words, evacuation of a racing facility isn't necessarily the best plan.

It's an unfortunate situation and it looks like NASCAR is doing their best to address the prevention of something like this happening again.
