There's news on the street that some select markets will be preempting the Saturday night Bristol race broadcast for preseason football.
The markets are not that numerous, but you need to be aware that if this takes place in your TV market, that ABC will be broadcasting the race on ESPN or another alternate ABC affiliate. (Or if you know someone in these markets, share this piece of info with them and GET THE WORD OUT!)
This situation has been noted to not be ABC or NASCAR's fault, but rather, this is a decision of your local ABC affiliate and more than likely, a strong desire to retain the football telecast because of advertising that has been paid for.
Be that as it may, it is what is.. etc., etc.. if you're in one of these TV markets, you need to prepare to record (if you're doing that) or watch the race on the right channel:
Rather than ABC, Saturday's Bristol race will air on ESPN in
- Buffalo NY,
- Tulsa OK,
- Weslaco TX and
- Quincy IL.
-
On an ABC digital tier 2 or alternate channel in
- Detroit MI
- Rochester NY.
-
In some markets, the pre-race show will not air, with the news in its place. The race broadcast will air right after the news. Those markets are
- Little Rock AR,
- Omaha NE and
- Corpus Christi TX.
-
This totally takes me back to that Phoenix race a few years ago. The points race to get in to the Chase was snug and we needed to see where Jimmie Johnson would finish. But the race ran over and was cut with some small number of laps to go. In favor of America's Funniest Videos. And it wasn't that funny at the time!
Any way, now you know and can be prepared.
