Centurion Boats at The Glen: Massive Wreck, Kyles 8th Win

The start of the race sees all Hendrick power up front. Kyle Busch led early, Dale Earnhardt Jr. took the lead by lap 2.

Lap 20 saw the first scheduled pit stops.

(Old Spice had a crazy suggestive ad with a Centaur in a shower and his girlfriend or wife scantily clad calling him a "provider". huh.)

The leader, Dale Jr, pitted on lap 28. Quite the range of strategies while we haven't seen any caution flags by this time. After the pit stops, Kyle Busch inherited the lead as Jr filled in the 6th spot.

At lap 42 they were having a wonderfully blistering pace, making me wonder if this can go caution free? Without a bunch of cautions bunching up the pack, and pit strategies spreading them out, it could be possible, barring a car getting stuck in the gravel and causing a full course yellow.
Jimmie Johnson pits on lap 42 prematurely. Tire problems initially reported.

Lap 45 - 18, 20, 99, 29, 88, 1, 16, 42, 31, 12 cars are the top 10.

Lap 47 saw the first caution. Not everyone pittted... just a few of the lead pack, then the rest of the gang piled in.

The 24 car spent a lot of time in the pits, working on the car. It's not handling too well, stuck around 25th and struggling to stay there.

Lap 50 restart: 18 20 99 29 42 31 26 2 07 5

Stewart "took" the lead on lap 54, got his 5 bonus points, and gave the lead back to Kyle Busch. Team work at it's best there.

Lap 55 saw green flag pit stops by the 18 and 20 cars, amongst others... it's more or less for guys who didn't pit at the last caution.

lap 64 sees caution for debris (gravel). Dale jr stayed out way too long and got caught leading while needing to pit. This is going to put him way back in the pack.

lap 66 restart: 18 20 12 1 21 11 01 42 48 29

Lap 78 Caution: Ryan newman's car spun, he could not get it restarted.

lap 81 restart: 18 20 21 42 1

At the end of lap 81, we see a mAssive wreck involving 9 cars total.

The 00 (McDowell) and 38 (Gilliland) cars got together.

The 38 car got into the 00 car going into turn 11. As they came out of 11, 00 either went a little wide with the 38 outside or the 38 just got a little too low trailing the oo car and the 38 car lost control, slapping the outside wall and bouncing back into traffic. He got hit hard by the No. 43 Dodge of Bobby Labonte, then pummeled by one, maybe more cars coming out of turn 11.

The 38 car is destroyed front and back. Gilliland got out and walked away. The No. 77 car of Sam Hornish Jr. slammed the end of the pit road wall HARD, sending large sized debris flying into the air towards photogs and others in the infield. Hornish just kept going after that, despite the visual appearance of such destruction.

As the cars came to a stop, Bobby Labonte got out of the No 43 Dodge car that was in the middle of the pit road entrance and staggered away ripping his driving gloves off and holding his right side. He's walking, but he could just have the wind knocked out of him. It's later reported he was taken to a local hospital for further observation.

All in all, 9 cars were involved in the wreck: 00, 22, 38, 41, 43, 55, 70, 77 and 78 cars.

This is the worse wreck I've ever seen at this track. Almost looked like a Talladega wreck with cars everywhere.

Gilliland was checked and released from the medical center but refused to comment with EPSN.

McDowell and Gilliland were called to the principals office. DOH! Apparently their paint exchange program started earlier on in the lap.

With 6 laps to go and almost 50 minutes later, the green flag falls for the restart and in the end, Kyle Busch gets his 8th win of the year.

The top 10 finishers: 18, 20, 21, 42, 1, 29, 48, 11, 99 & 2.

Kyle becomes first ever driver to win 3 road course races in one year with this win. He just keeps going and going and going...
